What do we teach Student Leaders?
We aim to empower our student leaders, building their confidence and competence. This is rooted in our core operational values, which we encourage them to embody and share with others.

Our Core Operational Values:
-
Excellence – We are passionately committed to doing our best for God. We do not confuse excellence with perfectionism. Perfection is given to us in Jesus and is our ultimate destiny; excellence is the task we are called to as a new creation in Christ. Although we are a work in progress, we believe that we are called by God to pursue excellence in even the smallest of things, and to lead our lives in a way that authentically represents our love for Him. Therefore, we strive for excellence using every resource God has placed at our disposal, and we commit ourselves to constant improvement, encouraging one another to this end. Philippians 4:8,9b
-
Integrity – We are passionately committed to the highest standards of conduct and behavior. We embrace honesty, authenticity, openness, fairness and candor in all our dealings. We believe that everyone is deserving of these things in every situation, as we speak the truth in the context of our love for one another. Ephesians 4:22-24; Proverbs 11:3; Ephesians 4:15-16

-
Cultural Relevance – We are passionately committed to a mindset that has a firm and accurate understanding of the world and community in which we live and serve. We will do whatever it takes, within the context of the Gospel, to build bridges that reach new people for Jesus and to help them grow in their relationship with Him. In our effort to fulfill our mission and vision, we advocate forms of communication that relate to a new generation of believers: their culture, language and mind-set. We will use methodologies that connect with de-churched and pre-believers to Jesus Christ, keeping in mind the unique university community in which we serve. Acts 17:22-23;1 Corinthians 9:20-23; Matthew 18:12-14

-
Community – We are passionately committed to unity and the living out of our lives together as the Body of Christ. As we live in a culture that innately advocates individualism, we find ourselves longing for meaningful connection with others, especially those of us who are experiencing life away from our families for the first time. Because many different Christian backgrounds are represented in our community, support, encouragement, quality relationships, mutual respect and teamwork often elude us. We therefore make every effort to create and maintain an environment of community worthy of our calling as Christians, and we affirm and uphold the God-given worth of each individual within this context. We are committed to treating all people with dignity and respect, and place the highest priority on resolving relational conflicts using Scripture as our guide. Ephesians 4:1-5; Matt 18:15-20, Exodus 20:16; Acts 2:42-47; Colossians 3:12-14; Proverbs 15:22

-
Empowerment – We are passionately committed to an environment that allows people to experience and enjoy the wholeness of being that which God intends for us to be in Jesus Christ. To that end we will commit ourselves to training, equipping, and empowering transformed people of all faith levels to live out a Christ-centered life. We will help people discover their God-given gifts, skills, and talents, and will encourage and support them as they use their skill-set to serve in Christ’s kingdom and in our community. 1 Peter 4:10; Ephesians 4:11-13
What roles do student leaders have in the abbey west community?
By engaging in leadership positions, students grow in discipleship, develop skills in administration, technical arts, and spiritual care, and build community rooted in shared faith. Their involvement makes ministry more relatable and accessible, as they connect with fellow students and create authentic, lasting impacts within the campus community. Through their leadership, our ministry reflects the value of empowering young people to live out and share their faith in real, dynamic ways.
