Our Discipleship Cross

Why do we use the Discipleship Cross?

We use our discipleship cross to communicate our core values because it serves as a powerful, visible reminder of our identity and mission in Christ. The cross symbolizes the foundation of our faith—God’s grace given to us through Jesus, making us new creations and equal members of His Body. Through the cross, we connect our actions and values directly to Christ’s example, ensuring that all our ministry efforts are centered on Him.

The discipleship cross visually reinforces our commitment to Witness, Service, Nurture, and Worship, and it reminds us to embody excellence, integrity, community, empowerment and cultural relevance as operational values. This design helps unify our community around a shared purpose and makes our values clear, accessible, and spiritually grounded.

What does this Discipleship Cross represent?

Our discipleship cross visually represents the journey each of us is called to take as followers of Christ. At the top, Witness holds a place of prominence, symbolizing our ultimate call to share God’s love boldly with the world. It reflects the sign placed above Jesus on the cross—“King of the Jews”—which, even though it was intended as mockery, ultimately proclaimed His true kingship. As we grow, this position reminds us that our journey’s aim is to be a witness for Christ, declaring His love and lordship.

On the arms of the cross, we place Service, symbolizing our outstretched call to serve others, just as Christ extended His arms on the cross in sacrificial love. This placement calls us to live out our faith in practical, compassionate service, reaching those around us with Christ’s love in action.

At the body of the cross, we have Nurture. This represents the nurturing of believers within the Body of Christ, where we help one another grow and create empowered disciples through community and the study of God’s Word. Positioned centrally, it signifies the importance of strengthening and caring for the spiritual health of all members.

Finally, Worship is placed at the foot of the cross, reflecting our call to come humbly to God in worship. Worship at the cross’s base reminds us that our relationship with Christ begins with reverence and adoration, laying a foundation for our faith journey.

Our discipleship program aims to guide students through this path, from the bottom of the cross to the top: students begin by worshiping in community, are nurtured in small groups, then move into serving others, and are ultimately equipped to be witnesses of the Gospel. This progression is designed to create a life-transforming journey toward mature discipleship.
